How to properly paint your home’s exterior

Exterior Home Painting Process

Vivid Paintings process of how to properly paint your home’s exterior requires careful planning and execution to ensure durability and aesthetic appeal. The following steps outline the correct procedure:

1. Inspection and Preparation

Begin by thoroughly inspecting the exterior surfaces for damage, such as cracks, peeling paint, mold, or rot. We then address any underlying issues before proceeding to clean the surface using power washing or scrubbing to remove dirt, mold, and loose paint. We then allow the surface to dry completely.

2. Surface Repair

Next we repair any damages identified during inspection and fill cracks and holes with appropriate fillers or caulking. Followed by sanding rough or uneven areas to create a smooth surface, ensuring proper adhesion of the new paint.

3. Priming

Apply a high-quality primer suitable for the surface material (wood, stucco, brick, etc.). The primer enhances paint adhesion, provides a uniform base color, and improves durability.

4. Painting

Select a good quality exterior grade paint. We like to use Sherwin Williams Duration paint. The body color gets sprayed and given at least two coats of paint. We backroll depending on surface. Then finish by brushing and/or rolling the trim.

5. Final Inspection

Once the paint has dried completely, we inspect the surface for missed spots or uneven coverage. We then touch up as necessary to achieve a uniform finish.

6. Cleanup

Once inspection is finished we remove any painter’s tape, paper and plastic. Then its time to dispose of all garbage and use blower to remove any dust or debris away from home.

7. Maintenance

We suggest to regularly inspect the painted surfaces for signs of wear or damage. Being prompt with touch-ups can extend the lifespan of your exterior paint.

Adhering to this systematic approach ensures a professional finish that protects your home from environmental elements while enhancing its curb appeal.
